Profile of Prof. A. J. Rodrigues


   
 

Anthony J. Rodrigues was born in Jinja, Uganda in 1945 and had his formal education spanned twenty years from 1952 to 1972 in three countries, India- primary education; Uganda- Secondary education and England- Tertiary education. He was initially sponsored by the government of Uganda for a Special Assistance African Plan (SCAAP) fellowship and subsequently by the British Government to study BSc Engineering from University of Manchester and MSc.

 

Theory and practice of Automatic control in 1970 and took his PhD in scientific computing from University of Manchester Institute of science and technology.

Rodrigues’s started his working career as a lecturer in the faculty of technology, Makerere University in February 1972 and joined the University of Nairobi in 1974 as a lecturer in the faculty of science and rose to a senior lecturer in 1979.
From 1985 to 1994 he was appointed Director of the institute of computer science and was promoted to Associate professor in 1989. In 1992 he took up Kenyan citizenship.

In 1997, on leave of absence from the University of Nairobi, he took up the chair of computer science at the University of Mauritius where he was also appointed director of information technology and systems.

He returned to the University of Nairobi in 2001 and was appointed Professor of Computer Science in 2002.

His research works vary from Analysis of algorithms, approximation theory, mathematical modeling, designing and developing integrated management information systems, and conducting policy research in information technology.

At present, his interests are in developing of a sustainable technology within the milieu of varying cultural and economic contexts especially in developing countries.
